Skiing had a long tradition in Altenmarkt and Zauchensee long before it was discovered as a tourist location. But also, for all those who do not exclusively wish to spend a skiing holiday in Altenmarkt, the region offers a wide spectrum of activities away from the slopes: Cross-country skiing, winter and snow-shoe hiking, winter riding, ice-skating and ice stock sport, tobogganing, ski tours or a romantic horse-drawn sleigh trip.
The expansive views and the romantic nature of the landscape still conjures up pioneering spirit today, as you freely glide across untouched slopes, in harmony with nature, whilst freeriding in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee. In the meantime, Altenmarkt-Zauchensee has become a winter sport location for all generations thanks to its top-class infrastructure with optimally-prepared slopes, untouched deep-snow slopes, fantastic cross-country skiing trails, convenient lift facilities and the promise of snow from December to the end of April. Every year, Altenmarkt - Zauchensee also hosts competitions: The village in the Pongau is internationally known as a host location for the Ski World Cup, Alpine Skiing Europa Cup, FIS races and freestyle and snowboard events.
