Our Philosphy

Our farm - a place to breathe, a place to dream:
 
We are a farm with two mainstays: on the one hand we run a cattle farm with a focus on dairy production; on the other, we use our beautiful, 800-year-old farmhouse to offer accommodations for holidaymakers.

Organic Farm (BIO Austria Salzburg): 

Farm work is one of the most vital and most valuable forms of human activity there is.  Working the land and tending cattle is closely interwoven with caring for and preserving our environment and our cultural heritage, in other words, it affects the entire population. We constantly strive to produce quality, according to the laws of nature and without the use of chemical or synthetic catalysts.  Our animals are treated species-appropriately and as nature would have intended, which also enhances the quality of life for the animals themselves.  We maintain our farmhouse garden with loving care and strive to put our knowledge of organic methods into practice.  Our fields are treated as arable land, while our land also includes areas of forest and alpine pastures.
As far as our energy supply is concerned, we attempt to be as independent as possible from the outside world.
The water on our farm comes from our own springs (government inspected and approved). It is very soft with a high mineral content.
Waste water is processed in our own, high-performance treatment facility (20EW).
Heating and hot water is provided by solar collectors (30 m²)  and by means of a modern woodchip heating system (KÖB DYN 65) fired with our own wood fuel. 

Village Life: 

Our farm lies at the entrance to Altenmarkt in a sunny valley setting.  Here in the heart of Salzburg's Enns-Pongau region, over the last thirty years our community has developed from a small village of farmers and workmen, to an attractive summer and winter vacation destination. Local trade and industry have participated in this upturn, yet the community has managed to preserve its village character, including a lively sense of community and active collaboration.  Our annual calendar is filled with folk traditions and high church holidays, as well as big, occasionally international sporting events.  In autumn, our village also participates in HARVEST FESTIVAL celebrations, with each year's program including a FESTIVAL WEEK which rotates from one community to the next. 

Living in this region brings with it countless advantages, which also means that the opportunities available to our guests are practically boundless:

  • fantastic hiking and outdoor sports
  • base for area cultural and historical events and tours   
  • base for trips to regional attractions, both near and far 
Farm Holidays: 

About forty years ago, the first room in our beautiful farmhouse was set up to accommodate guests.  When our parents took over the business in 1965, rooms which had up to that point mainly been used for farming purposes, as well as the so-called "servants' quarters", were refunctioned for rental purposes. When we took over the farm in 1993, we also made it our goal to continue improvements aimed at increasing the comfort and satisfaction of both family and guests. And so it is that we constantly maintain an open eye to potential upgrades that need to be made.  We are very happy that our parents' regular guests have remained loyal to us, and we have managed to add many new guests as our own personal friends, guests who look for renewed strength and energy during their stay with us. We are well aware that satisfied guests are the best form of advertizing, which explains why we are always grateful for suggestions for improvements, making every effort to give our best in all areas, so that our guests' holidays truly are the most beautiful time of their entire year.  Our farmhouse meets all quality criteria of the Austrian Farm Holidays Association  and has been awarded "4 Flowers".  These criteria address the following aspects of our farm:
  • Farm: location, exterior appearance, garden, type of farming, waste disposal
  • House: interior rooms, guest lounge, amenities, furniture, energy, environmental protection 
  • House: living and sleeping areas; sanitary facilities
  • Services: breakfast
  • Hosts: dedicated; professionally educated
