Altenmarkt- Zauchensee - Your Vacation Destination
Zauchensee is one of the eight communities in the Salzburger Sportwelt region, nestled amid gentle valleys surrounding the Dachstein Massif and Tauern range, a summertime base for a rich variety of recreational opportunities: 1,000 km of hiking paths, 500 km of mountain bike trails, two riverside bike paths, 200 km of bridle paths, 10 mountain lifts running in summer, swimming lakes, aquatic centers and, for golfers, an 18-hole championship course with weekly guest tournaments and a 9-hole compact course.
As welcoming and youthful as Altenmarkt- Zauchensee appears to visitors, it is also very proud of its deep traditional roots:
Altenmarkt Parish Church, with its stone statue of "Virgin Mary and the Baby Jesus" dating from 1393, is also clear evidence of this storied history, a structure filled with stylistic contrasts, such as a Gothic nave and a Late Baroque onion tower.
Green fields, lush alpine pastures and romantic mountain lakes, are a few of the highlights of our traditional Salzburg market community in summer. In winter, on the other hand, we think of forests and fields covered deep in snow, and a mountain world sure to captivate each and every winter sports fan. Â
